Know the coverage, deductibles, exclusions, documentation and effective date before deciding which quote fits your property.

Start with the property and coverage

Give your insurance professional accurate information about the home, roof, occupancy and any recent work. Ask how the proposed dwelling coverage was determined and what is included for other structures, belongings and liability. A home inspector does not select coverage limits for you.

When comparing quotes, use the same property information. Ask the agent to point out meaningful differences in protection rather than assuming that similar premiums buy the same policy.

Understand what you would pay

Florida’s Department of Financial Services advises comparing coverage and deductibles. Ask your agent to explain each deductible in dollars and when it applies. A lower premium can come with different out-of-pocket exposure.

Ask which exclusions, limits or settlement terms matter to the property. Obtain a clear explanation of any separate policy that may be needed; do not infer protection from a marketing summary.

Keep inspection reports in their proper role

A 4 Point report documents the roof, electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems for insurer review. A Wind Mitigation report records verifiable wind-resistant features. A Pre-Purchase Inspection helps you understand broader visible, accessible home conditions.

Ask the insurer for its exact documentation request and acceptance requirements. A report does not guarantee a policy, a lower premium or a particular discount. Any proposed credit needs confirmation in the insurer’s quote.

Before accepting a quote

Confirm the insurer, coverage selections, total premium, fees, effective date and any outstanding requirements with your licensed insurance professional. Ask whether information or documents still need review. Keep copies of the agreed terms and correspondence.

If the remaining task is an inspection report, send DAMNGOOD the property address and written request. We can help you choose the inspection to discuss and confirm access, price and timing. Insurance decisions remain with your insurer and adviser.
